PM, PB lead times
Investment firm PiperJaffray believes Apple may be "winding down" production of its current Power Mac G5 and PowerBook G4 models, citing an increase in the estimated days to ship for the Power Mac G5 2.7 Dual and the Power Book G4 15" Combo. The remained unchanged at 6 while the number in the Top 20 increased to 12 from 8. The 12 in the Top 20 ties its all time high. "We believe that back-to-school sales are primarily responsible for the increase."

The 2.7's estimated ship time varies like that all the time. It does not indicate a new model is coming (although one could be).

the powerbook has a 1-2 day delay? Holy cow, this is proof the Powerbook G5 is around the corner! It certainly couldn't be due to any component shortage.

NASDAQ in general is off today (though by a much smaller percent), so that's a factor. AAPL is at a level where it's very volatile. Look at the stock's movement this week: It's been big moves (1% or more) in either direction.
Now for my (worthless) predictions: No new PowerBooks at Mac Expo; they were updated fairly recently. New dual-core PowerMacs, running at around the same clock speeds (possibly even slower; they might top out at 2.5GHz), but significantly faster because they are essentially quad-processor machines. I also wouldn't be surprised to see them cooler running, such that Apple could drop the liquid cooled model. Then again, if IBM's dual-cores do top out at 2.5GHz, as has been reported, then Apple might overclock it to 2.7GHz (or higher) to save face, thus keeping the liquid cooler around.

Estimated PowerBook ship times are all 24 hours for the 15" and 17", and 1-3 days for BTO....If the analyst was quoting recent build times, they bulged about 3 weeks ago and are back to pretty darn quick.
