DEVONthink Pro released

DEVONtechnologies today released the final version of DEVONthink 1.0 Professional, its designed to easily store and organize large numbers of documents. Built-in artificial intelligence provides assistance as users manipulate and search documents, while scripts further extend the functionality of DEVONthink beyond its support for all major standard file formats. The ability to store emails, manage bookmarks, and receive RSS feeds which can be directly clipped to the database reduces the number of steps required to maintain workflow. DEVONthink can index files without storing them in the database, allowing users to catalog repositories of images, MP3 files and CDs/DVDs. Both DEVONthink products work with Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later, DEVONthink Professional is available for $75 while the personal version is $40.

The new version brings improved Automator support with 14 actions and ten sample workflows that demonstrate how to create workflows and integrate DEVONthink Professional with other applications, the Internet or the iPod. The final version also offers an AppleScript droplet, improved printing, PDF- and HTML-based documentation, and more.

In addition, printing of lists, outlines and sheets has been revised and the Dashboard widgets have been updated. The web site export now comes with four different templates, allows users to select the text encoding, and automatically converts umlauts and accents to HTML entities, if desired. With QuickTime 7 installed, DEVONthink Professional 1.0 supports several additional multimedia file types. A new preference automatically inserts smart quotes, localized for English-, French- and German-style curly quotes.
