Apple absent from annual best-brands survey

updated 10:50 am EDT, Thu August 4, 2005

Best brands: Sony, Dell

Sony and Dell toppped the annual , which asked 2,339 U.S adults to rate the their three brands. Apple didn't even make the top 10, according to the recently released results; industry competitors such as Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard as well as several car companies and Coca-Cola were among the top cited brands. The poll simply asked the adults to provide a brand without providing a suggested list. Sony topped the poll again for the sixth consecutive year, while Dell and Kraft each moved up a spot to second and third spots, respectively. Coca-Cola, Ford, Toyota, Honda, General Motors, Microsoft, HP, and Procter & Gamble, rounded out the top 10. Harris said that the figures for age, sex, race, education, region and household income were weighted where necessary to bring them into line with their actual proportions in the US population.

I don't know about that..... best brainwashing with commercials and advertising.. perhaps.... Dell.... best brand.... nahhhh their commercials for the $299 computers... over and over and over..... how can you not forget that...... but you can't equate that with "best brand"..

makes sense.

Apple holds around 3% market share of the desktop computer market share. Even though the iPod has become synonymous with mp3 players, they are still a niche market, luxury-type item. Whereas the average person considers mp3 players "gadgets," the desktop computer has become a family information and entertainment hub. Dell (and other PC competitors) offer computer packages that can be purchased at Costco for less than $500. Have you been to a Costco on a Saturday?

advertising?

Maybe Apple would have shown up on the list if they did some decent (or, any) advertising. Sorry, the Steve Jobs iPod Dancers don't count as Mac ads.

But I've given up hope on Apple ever doing any serious advertising...

I wonder how many...

... people listed the brand "iPod" or "Mac". If you add up iPod, Mac, and Apple, I wonder where the standing is?

Best Brand?

How vaguely-worded is that? If Apple topped the list, I'd still be suspicious. “Best” is surely not quantifiable.

Please.

You mean to tell me Disney and/or ESPN did not make it? Dell? I am in the PC business and I cannot tell you how many countless people tell me about their horror stories of Dell Tech Support/Repair.

Maybe that is it, people are aware of the brand. Well aware of it.

I noticed a few of the companies that did not make the list are the ones i prefer over there counter parts. Apple & Pepsi for example... Apple has a better computer for my needs and Pepsi tastes better
