More iPod car solutions

Apple today announced that in Japan have joined BMW, MINI, smart and Alfa Romeo in Japan to deliver iPod integration with their car stereos for 2006 model lines. "Seamless integration of iPods in cars allows music lovers to enjoy high-quality sound through their car's stereo system, easily access their entire music library and take their music with them everywhere they go," according to a statement released by Apple. "We're delighted to have such a wide variety of car companies in Japan offering iPod integration," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of Worldwide iPod Product Marketing.

"iPod is the number one digital music player in Japan and more music lovers than ever can now enjoy a seamless iPod music experience in their car."

In addition, an array of after-market solutions are available from Alpine, Clarion, Kenwood and Pioneer for cars that currently do not offer iPod integration.

    Wow...

How can any other portable audio maker ever stop this locomotive now. Maybe in 4-5 years, but not soon. Well done Apple.

    Re: Wow

I guess all anybody really needs to do is reverse engineer the interface and create a compatible player. The interface has to be stable otherwise car makers would have to constantly reengineer their stereo systems to stay compatible.

    ecosystem...

Didn't some incredible idiot 'analyst' recently point out how the lack of ecosystem will be the end of the iPod? Hmmmm....? Every car manufacturer starting to support the iPod sure sounds like a thriving ecosystem to me. Don't see any such support for iRiver, Zen, or any of the other c***.

    US PLEASE!

The only thing holding me back from buying a new Mazda 6 is the lack of iPod options. At least you can buy a kit for the 3, but the 6 has NOTHING. Please bring this state-side!

    Mazda3 Kit?

You can buy a kit for the 3? I was looking into an SP23 edition Mazda3 a few months ago, and it seemed like even the IceLink wasn't working properly (yet). If you please, of which kit doth thou speakest?
