iTunes phone expected at Virgin-sponsored event in UK

updated 08:35 am EDT, Thu July 28, 2005

iTunes phone due in August

Motorola and Apple are set to debut the much-anticipated at UK's "V Festival," an event sponsored by Virgin Mobile, which will be one of the first mobile carriers to offer the phone. Citing an analyst report, TheStreet.com reports that the "iPod-inspired music phone -- which Motorola twice pulled from introductions earlier this year, apparently under orders from Apple chief Steve Jobs -- will debut in the U.K. next month." Quoting American Technology Research analyst Albert Lin, the report says that the planned venue is a four-stage Virgin Mobile-sponsored "V Festival" concert, which takes place from Aug. 20-21. Earlier this week, Motorola told analysts that the phone would be unveiled at a separate music event within the next 66 days and would be available in the third quarter.

    What?

They still haven't released this phone? Its one of those 550MHz G4 moments. I heard about this phone so long ago I thought it'd already come and gone.

Oh, and by the time it does come out, the whole 'music revolution' will be so over with and everyone will be onto the next big thing.

    Let's hope...

that Apple is in charge of the presentation instead of Motorola.

I tuned in to the Motorola 'keynote' stream the other day. The happy-chat-QVC-shopping-channel presentation style was so second rate. And Apple is anything but second rate, right Steve?

    2nd that

I'm tired of waiting and don't care either. Which ever comes out first the Sony Ericsson W800 or itunes phone I'm getting. I just hope they both remember that it's supposed to be a phone after all and the reception should be a priority.

    V festival

For more info on the V festival, check out http://www.vfestival.com/vfestival/pages/index.cfm - it's a pretty awesome line-up this year.

I've been to this for most of the 10 years it's been running, and aside from two main stages, club and dance tents and a few sponsored tents (Bacardi etc) there's always a V Mobile venue which has a few bonuses and maybe some private performances: generally when you sign up for their mobile network, you get free entry to this for the weekend. I snuck in one year and had free cocktails and massages all afternoon!
