Apple, Gap to offer free iTunes songs promo [updated]

Apple is readying a new iTunes promo. The company will reportedly offer free iTunes songs to customers who try on a pair of Gap jeans, according to AppleInsider. The promotion will run from August 8th through the end of the month, providing each customer who tries on a pair of Gap blue jeans with a small green iTunes card which can be redeemed for one free song from Apple's iTunes Music Store. All Gap US retail stores are expected to participate, while some "early back-to-school" locations may begin the promo early. Update: The iTunes promo will introduce three new denim fits for women—Curvy, Straight and Original—and one for men called Straight, according to BrandWeek. The "Find Your Favorite Fit" events is designed to get people to try on the new styles

A second phase of the campaign delivers TV and print ads in which musicians perform an original remake of his favorite song while wearing his favorite Gap jeans. Gap will offer a limited edition CD featuring the artists and their favorite songs as a gift with any Gap purchase of $60 or more, according to the publication.

"Morissette and a cast of musicians including Joss Stone, John Legend, Jason Mraz and others appear in Gap's newest campaign, an effort that includes TV and print ads via Laird + Partners, New York. The campaign reprises an ongoing Gap theme, the relationship between jeans and music. For fall, the focus will be on 'favorites,' how your favorite jeans and favorite songs make the perfect fit."

what a mess. it would make so much more sense to give iTunes songs to those who actually buy something. now anyone who wants to buy jeans has to realize that the folks who can't afford a $0.99 song have all flocked to squirm into the very pants they're actually paying for at the counter.

the whole point is to increase traffic at GAP stores. The more people they get in the door (under the guise of "trying on" a pair of pants), the more sales will be made.

Oh, did you know that the CEO of Gap is on Apple's board of directors?

So, let me get this straight. Poor people are dirty and rich people are clean? So if someone has a computer and wants a free song, the jeans become dirty, right? I hope you don't eat at restaurants, because food service people don't make a lot of money. Oh, and neither do people who package the crackers, bread, spaghetti sauce, etc. that you buy at grocery stores.

You're a buffoon.
