Cingular iTunes cell phone

Cingular Wireless, the No. 1 U.S. mobile service, is . Sources said that Motorola and Apple have been talking to Cingular about it using the iTunes phone, while one analyst has said that Apple and Cingular were working out final details on revenue sharing, according to Reuters: "Apple and Motorola said last summer they were working on bringing the popular iTunes service to mobile phones but Motorola has delayed unveiling its iTunes device so far amid analyst speculation about a lack of interest from operators. Music and wireless companies are betting that mobile phones equipped with digital music players will be a key source of growth in the next few years." Meanwhile, Motorola said the company is on schedule to ship an iTunes phone in the third quarter.

    Do Cingular/Steve go back

Didn't the Cingular president get up one stage with Steve at a Mac Expo a few years ago? I don't remember the context but it probably was phone or quicktime related - but it could have been with iSync also. Anyway assuming my memory is right it makes sense that they are working with Cingular.

    You're absolutely right!

“Cingular is thrilled to see Apple take the lead in bringing easy-to-use mobile solutions to market,” said Stephen Carter, president and CEO of Cingular. “With a Mac, our customers using the new Sony Ericsson T68i phone are at the leading edge of the mobile services revolution—keeping their contact list and calendar up-to-date between their Mac and their phone, sending and receiving text messages from their Mac, and surfing the web with our new Wireless Internet Express Network.”

    Motorola again?

My concern with Apple partnering with Motorola is exactly the same concerns I had when Moto was supplying chips to the Mac. The company just doesn't seem to understand the timing necessary to be on the cutting edge. Witness the fact that the iTunes phone has seen several delays and now won't be ready for months from now. I don't have a beef with Moto's products, I'm just concerned that a faster moving company with beat Apple to the punch. Apple needs to keep the momentum alive. M$ has had a tough time competing with Apple on this front (a refreshing situation) but they're back there and they'll try every dirty trick in the book to make a dent in Apple's marketshare.

    moto

Motos phones hold up the best and have a better reputation than Nokia's throw away 5100 series (their only strong model in the US to date). Moto was a very wise choice in phone makers, I'm more likely to buy a Moto than a Nokia for this purpose.

    re: Motorola Again

IT won't matter on time, Apple owns the digital music market. When they get a product out that plays their music, the market will follow. Not until. TiVo sales have declined some since they don't support iTMS, as an example.

    first in line

I'm all over a music phone when it comes out. Although, not a Motorola phone. I'm looking forward to Sony Ericsson's W800 or W600 later this summer. They did a really cool preview/interview on the May 14th Inside Mac Radio podcasts.

I've been looking forward to only having to carry around one device instead of both my iPod and phone. I've hoping for a bluetooth iPod and hoping someone would come out with a way for that iPod to connect with a bluetooth phone, diplay my call, pause music and all of this through a bluetooth headset. But obviously this never happened and I'm not holding my breath. A SE W800 is the answer for me. Sony Ericsson is very pro Apple and open standards by the way. Check out the phone at sonyericsson.com. Very cool, up to 2GB of music that you CAN put on the phone yourself. FM radio, bluetooth, 2MP camera, etc.

re: Motorola Again. Tivo's a sore subject for me. I was hoping Apple would have bought Tivo. Instead Tivo made a partnership with MS. If ITMS isn't on Tivo it's Apple's fault. Tivo has said they would need Apple's help. Mac users also can use the Tivo To Go. Again, needing Apple's help.
