Kodak debuts Easyshare 5.0
Kodak today introduced , an update to its free software that helps users organize, edit, share and print digital pictures. Available now for Windows and due later this summer for Mac users, the software is compatible with all popular brands of digital cameras, as well as the most widely used digital picture/video file formats. Version 5.0 features new video editing tools, including the ability to trim, splice, rotate and add music to digital videos (captured by digital cameras). as well as improved automatic red eye reduction and better one-click image enhancement.
The software also offers a new "Scene Effects" to "change the mood of photos" as well as an 'Express Upload' to easily add photos to the online Kodak Easyshare Gallery (formerly Ofoto) for designing photo books, custom prints, calendars, greeting cards, etc.
"Kodak Easyshare Software is the most popular, no-cost digital picture software title in the world, with more than 22 million highly-satisfied users since its initial launch in 2001," said Craig McGowan, digital systems manager at Kodak. "Version 5.0 gives people even more ways to organize, print and share their pictures, while retaining Kodak's hallmark ease-of-use."
Version 5.0 of Easyshare also features a new slider control to dynamically scale thumbnails and digital albums so that more pictures can be viewed at once. A 'Smart Transfer' feature with duplicate picture detection prevents inadvertently storing multiple copies of the same image.
Sharing options have also been increased in version 5.0. Owners of recent Kodak Easyshare digital cameras can synchronize their favorite pictures between the camera's memory and Easyshare, allowing users to walk away with custom picture galleries for on-the-go sharing. Users can now more efficiently share pictures by creating custom e-mail groups in the integrated address book. It also features improved CD and DVD burning capabilities.
In addition, Kodak says that the new software supports the forthcoming Kodak Easyshare-One digital camera and printer dock, both of which are Wi-Fi compatible. Easyshare 4.0, available for free, was released in April 2005 and is available now for Mac OS X (including Tiger).
