All this ultimately came from Digitimes, who has yet to get a single rumor right. Nevermind the cost of such flash memory (have you priced 4GB flash memory lately?). Doesn't even pass the smell test.
512 MB and 1 GB have worked well and there is no need to change.
There may well be, however, a SUPER THIN (1/3 the thickness of current mini) iPod CARD as the 4/6GB minis' HD are replaced by flash.
i wouldn't mind the 512's being $60 though! :)
The jump to iPodNN (your sister site) gives you the same text with no real source at all for the info. Not inspiring, guys.
A bigger flash-pod would be great if they finally give us a screen.
who would by a 4GB iPod shuffle when for the same price, you could get a mini, with a screen, better hard disk support, ability to use 3rd-party products, etc?
It would be to difficult to navigate. My biggest request is still an FM tuner though. Sigh
The hard drive and size are key problems with the mini vs. shuffle. For people who don't ever, ever mess with their controls, and just let the music play, the shuffle is by far the better choice. Who cares if it doesn't have a calendar or brickout. Those are just gimmicks anyway. These shuffles weigh nothing, and they're basically indestructible.
Lame news. The source is unreliable; unworthy of a discussion.

We'll need a screen
At those sizes our music will be too difficult to navigate.
