Mesa Dynamics today released a utility that allows users to run third-party widgets under Mac OS X Panther. The , now in public beta, allows Panther users to run third-party Dashboard widgets--a technology previously only available under Mac OS X Tiger: "Panther users—for the first time—can load, run and interact with Dashboard widgets on the desktop. With the exception of widgets owned by Apple Computer which are not accessible, Amnesty Widget Browser's performance in Panther nearly replicates its user experience under Tiger." The Dashboard widgets to live directly on the Panther desktop via an icon in the system menu bar. The final version will ship in the third-quarter of 2005.
