    impressive...

so based on tech stats, the PS3 blows the XBOX outta the water.

Looks like the cell processor is worthy. There was a rumor that Apple 'could' use this processor, maybe they're producing a high-end processing machine for rendering, or was it to use it as a 'sub-processor' for all the graphics shtuff ... would make an iMac an impressive machine.

And on the game console, why they H E double hockey sticks can't a game company convert a game made on similar hardware as a mac (xbox) to the mac for not much effort?

    nice

I think if sony delivers on these specs they will crush the new xbox. There are several limitations in the new xbox specs that make is seem crippled when compared to the new playstation.

    if only they made Halo...

for the PS3. I'm glad the PS3 has the power, it is the weakest of the current gen consoles. But they had the games to back it up.

Now, hopefully, they'll have both. Only 256MB of RAM though?

    No HD in PS3?

I only wish there was gonna be a hard drive in the PS3. I'm sick of Sony insisting on just using memory and compact flash cards.

Yes, there is HD in PS3!

Oops, I read another more informative article on PS3 and there is gonna be a detachable 2.5" HD shipping with it.

Now, if only Halo 3 would be available for this console as well.

    Hyperbole aside

"so based on tech stats, the PS3 blows the XBOX outta the water."

Not a fan of Microsoft are ya? I would call their specs comparable on paper. The only thing that is blown out of the water are the other computers using PPC variants (Apple and Nintendo are the other major ones).

"Looks like the cell processor is worthy."

Did you have information otherwise? From when it was announced year ago its capability was highly touted. No one, including industry insiders and from numerous reports, had doubts that it was going to be a blockbuster CPU. But thanks for your important validation.

    re:Hyperbole aside

There was a screen shot of the throughput of the processor (both at 3.2 Ghz) and the cell was about twice the PowerPC chip ... to me, that gives the appearance of blowing it out of the water... and NO, I'm not a fan of Microsoft.

The XBOX is a prime example. A 2 page spread in a local paper last year described that they had not made any money on the XBOX itself and didn't care if they did as they had a 10 year plan for it. It also described the box as one of the easiest for people to copy the games, thereby taking profit out of game manufacturers pockets. Basically Microsoft wan't to be in that space and had spent 2 Billion in marketing and had more money to spend on it.

They're essentially buying there way in with marketing which is the American way, I guess I shouldn't fault them for that as they're not the only ones.

Please do some more research. Sure PS3's teraflops is 2x that of Xbox's but PS3 is strong on vector units which are cheaper than scalar teraflops. Xbox has 6 scalar threads to work while PS3 only has one. I can go on and on but I don't want to do your research for you. Go find out for yourself why "blown out of water" is a pure exaggeration.

The Xbox division turned profitable this year. When launched in 2001 MS had forecasted that they are not going to be profitable for at least three years so it seems they are on schedule.
