xbox = yawn
Seriously. And I'm not just saying it because I'm not a Microsoft fan. I have the current xBox and I think it looks a lot better. And you know why they are calling it 360 right? Because playstation will be version 3, and they don't want consumers to think xBox 2 is older and less advanced than playstation3. And they didn't want to be too obvious and call theirs xBox 3. So they came up with a stupid naming convention that makes no sense, but later they'll give a stupid explanation as to why 360 makes sense. Think Windows XP.
A quote in MacFormat (September 2003) by Steve Jobs reads:
"There are no plans to make a tablet...We look at the tablet and we think it's going to fail"
That's a quick turn-a-round Mr. Jobs...I wonder what makes him think the market has changed...?
Can you quote me the month and year Steve Jobs made fun of flash based MP3 players saying it's a gift you throw away? This and the tablet PC are not the only things he has gone back on.
In this litigious age, Apple may only be trying to keep their options open by making this patent filing. This ought to keep them from legal trouble (or at least give them some arguing points) if they ever do decide to make a tablet. There are several patents that Apple has received that haven't resulted in products - you can look them up yourself.
I think Jobs was right when he said the tablet market wasn't going anywhere. Then again, if it was done right (like a small laptop / large Newton, and priced in the iPod range) it might be seen as something unique enough to gain acceptance.
I doubt if we'll see it, though.

Yes, and the history of such services shows they succeed so well! Anyway, let AAPL keep sinking, so I can afford to buy it up. :)
