Sorenson Squeeze 4.1

Sorenson Media today began shipping , an update to its video encoding and compression application suite. Focused on integrating more seamlessly with video editing and distribution workflows, the Sorenson Squeeze 4.1 Compression Suite has added the ability to set destinations for compressed video files, include chapter markers for DVD production, and create transport streams for HDV and DVHS. Sorenson Squeeze 4.1 Compression Suite also introduces aacPlus audio and interoperates with optional Macintosh Windows Media 9 encoding components, allowing users to import and encode Windows Media 9 audio and video directly on the Mac. Sorenson Squeeze 4.1 is available for free to current users of Sorenson Squeeze 4.0.

"Our users have been demanding time-saving integration with the leading DVD authoring applications. We're very pleased to offer video export, with chapter markers, directly to Avid's DVD by Sonic and Apple's DVD Studio Pro," said Matt Cupal, vice president of strategy and business development at Sorenson Media. "The other great news in Squeeze 4.1 is our integration with the new Flip4Mac WMV components from Telestream. This makes Sorenson Squeeze the first cross-platform Windows Media 9 encoding tool."

Sorenson Squeeze 4.1 offers a new Destination feature, which users may select as an optional task. Users can set one or more destinations for the final video file while preparing video to be encoded or compressed. Destinations can be user-defined and may include any application, multiple locations on a single computer, other computers connected to a shared network, or even to an FTP site. Using this Destinations feature, Sorenson Squeeze 4.1 will automatically save the final video files to the next step in the video editing or distribution process.

Sorenson Squeeze 4.1 has also integrated aacPlus audio and aacPlus audio presets. aacPlus is an audio codec for Internet, wireless, and digital broadcast media and communications. Sorenson says that aacPlus audio delivers CD-quality sound with the ability to compress audio files to a fraction of their original size. The aacPlus audio presets help customers quickly apply the aacPlus codec to selected sources.

The Telestream Flip4Mac WMV Components for the Sorenson Squeeze 4.1 Compression Suite (Macintosh) are available starting at $100 (Flip4Mac WMV Suite) and $180 (Flip4Mac WMV Pro Suite). Sorenson Squeeze 4.1 upgrades are $160, while the full version is $450.
