Popwire Technology today announced that it will release and showcase its new product upgrades for Mac OS X during NAB 2005. The upgrades include enhanced features as well as extended format support, including support for H.264 (AVC) video, 2-pass Flash video, Windows Media MBR, MXF, High Definition (HD) as well as full QuickTime integration. ($400), the desktop version, converts to and from all common formats such as MPEG-2, MPEG-4, QuickTime, 3GPP, Windows Media and Real Media. The new product upgrades, Compression Engine 2.1 and Compression Master 3.1, will be free upgrades for existing customers.

"With this release we are adding a lot of features and formats that we know our customers have been missing. For example Flash video and full QuickTime integration, which means you get access to all your installed QuickTime codecs such as Sorenson 3. We also decided to release H.264, even though we still consider it as a preview technology at the moment. Our believes are, however, that H.264 will start to take off commercially by the end of the year. Therefore, during the next six months, we will concentrate intensely on extending and developing H.264 to improve its quality and speed.

"In our Compression Engine our focus will especially lie on being able to handle heavy HD encoding by utilizing our clustering capability. Another important feature, based on feedback from our customers, is the support for Multi Bit Rate encoding of Windows Media. We will also follow up the success with the Windows Media QuickTime Export Component with a free playback component so you can play or import Windows Media in your QuickTime player.", says Kay Johansson CTO at Popwire.
