The highest ranked technology hardware company was IBM, which ranked 17th overall. HP trailed IBM with a distant 54th. Apple remains ahead of Sun, Nortel, Casio, and other hardware makers. Apple only a year ago had a market capitalization of $8 billion. At one point they were as low as $6 billion. To be now $36 billion Apple has basically more than quadrupled its worth in just one year. Talk about the iPod revolution!

Somehow I don't think beating out Casio is anything to be proud of. Not saying this was not a great achievement, but I'm not sure why the author chose to compare Apple to Casio...

Q: If Apple moves up 320 positions a year and MS moves down 16 positions a year, how long will it take for Apple to pass MS?

i's assume for the reason he stated. Because Casio makes hardware, just like Apple, Sun, Nortel. At least the fields are close.. they could have used Wendy's or something really out there!

on a personal note, it does sound odd. when I think Casio, I think cheap watches and calculators! not a top 500 ranked company! I didnt even know they were still around! Texas Ins falls under the same category for me. =)

I would like to know how many Techs it takes to support 300,000 employees @ Citigroup . Must be a huge IT Department.

If only! Its just too bad that the further up that list you go, the tougher it is to keep moving up!

Casio makes lots of point-of-sale hardware.
TI is the leader in projected video (DLP) as well as many other products.

Wow.. thanks for all of that USELESS info, presearch!! You mean theres more than just consumer products? yeah right... and I take it youre going to tell me a bunch of crap like oil is used in factories and not just cars. D'UH!!!

I'm well aware of TI and Casios business. I actually had to contact TI for a replacement part a few months ago. I was merely making a joke. Take your phaser off "serious" for a second and lighten up! =P
