CherryOS Mac emulator for PC goes open-source?

updated 08:15 pm EDT, Wed April 6, 2005

CherryOS update

The recently launched was accused of taking the code --with some very strong evidence--and repackaging it as commercial software. The software was recently put on hold, after several reports ran solicitions on behalf of PearPC for help with legal representation. A note on the Mac emulator CherryOS website now reads "Due to Overwhelming Demand. Cherry Open Source Project. Launches 5.1.2005." The software was put on-hold yesterday and is no longer listed on the developer's website.

    like a dying horse...

kill the damn "cherry" already. It's far too tainted to go anywhere even if it is eventually released.

    Only the begining...

A couple users watching this story decided to look into MSX's main product, VX30, which sells for $1000 and up. It turns out it has copyright notices for Xvid and other LGPL and GPL software all through it, plus copyright notices for Apple's software, etc, etc.

    Too little, and too late

The copyright owner of the PearPC code has already revoked any license to MSX; they cannot, even now that they decided to comply with the GPL, use it in any way since the copyright owner has specifically forbidden them to use any of his works. Yes, Just what any self respecting company would do.. Hold onto their software when there is supposedly 'overwhelming' demand' for it.. Thats funny

    OK

These folks are the bizarro world SCO. I'm thinking a smart business move at this point would be to move the company to an Asian country that doesn't believe in copyrights. Might check out new living arrangements in non-extradition countries as well.

    So what happens...

If the code, when open-sourced, has *NO* non-trivial PearPC code in it?

    Headline's wrong

"Going" open-source? Since it's based on GPL software, it *is* open-source.
