    re: PSP

Well duh! It's a portable game device, with music and video capability, not the other way around.

This news snipit about the PSP is crazy. The thing is cool. I mean like - ipod cool in its own way. I have never been a sony/PS fan but this thing made me drool. So when is Grand Tourismo coming out for the ipod?!?!? Sheeze - what a dumb comment.

    I'm sorry, but...

Did Sony ever SAY that the PSP was an iPod competitor? Geesh, the stuff you guys run with.

    PSP

Man oh man .. U have no idea how cool the psp is till u actually see one . I hate portable game systems but have been converted . I also dont like PS2 cause it looks all pixilated on my TV. The PSP is the bomb .

Ohh and now I wish I never got a IPOD Photo .. pointless since the PSP is much better for sharing photos . Plus its going to come out with web abilities and keyboard by the end of the year !

Ipods rock too .. Apple is going to have to do more the show photos on there high end ipods .

    PSP replaced my iPod

I am still in search of the perfect all in one device. I got a PSP for gaming and video. That's why I sold my iPod. The PSP is capable to do a lot more. Including making phone calls and surfing the net. I think Apple could have done better but for now it's PSP for me.

    just you wait...

You can bet that Jobs is watching the response to the PSP very closely. The PSP is, like the iPod, a gorgeous piece of kit. They are not direct competitors, nor are they intended to be, but there are inevitable comparisons, and many people will have to choose between one or the other for financial reasons. Their capabilities do overlap, after all. Also, how many things do you want to carry around?

    Sony's view...

Sony has a fairly decent view of what they want in an interview in the april issue of The Official Playstation Magazine (#91/PSP). Though the iPod, Nintendo DS, books and others are technically competitors, they each have their own niche - all of which the PSP touches.

Personally, I will not be replacing my iPod mini with anything except another iPod, becasue of iTMS, but for people who don't want to carry around several different things, the PSP is a delight - and I am VERY glad I own one.

Besides, it plays movies very very well, and the games are fantastic. And if some day I can use it to type notes, make phone calls, and destroy my enemies, good. But my iPod will still be at my hip, surrounding me with auditory bliss.

    PS

Did anyone actually read that article, I figured it was a waste of time when I saw there was a 5-step login process (and a $110 fee if I forget to un-register...). Was it any good?

    apple and orange juice

The PSP is a game machine that has some extra features like playing movies and music. Putting the audio feature up against the iPod would be like putting the iPod's solitaire game up against the PSP's 3d graphics engine and variety of games. It is really too bulky to carry around just to listen to music

The one thing that is holding the PSP back is lack of internal mass storage. This is keeping the cost down but until you can get a 60GB memory stick holding an entire library of music or photos (unless the future holds in it a way to burn content to re-writable UMDs)

I suspect many people would own both an iPod and PSP and be happy with both. And no matter which one you listen to, you will look just as hip with your white headphones.
