Apple taking orders for iPod Camera Connector

iPod Camera Connector

is now taking pre-orders for the iPod Camera Connector. The connector, announced at Macworld Expo earlier this year, is available for $30 and has an estimated ship time of 1-3 weeks: "Simply plug the iPod Camera Connector into the iPod dock connector, plug your camera's USB cable and watch your images make their way to the iPod, ready to view in a slide show! Compatible with iPod photo (30/40/60GB). Requires iPod software v1.1."

I thought the initial releases said the transferred photos would have to be put onto your computer, then re=imported to the iPod Photo in order to see them on the iPod/slide show? The information posted on the Apple store seems to contradict that.

Things change...

Yep, that's the way it had to be done, but now with the camera connector things are different. No computer required. Camera + ipod + connector = instant show-n-tell

Wish it worked with all

It's a sham that it doesn't work with all iPods. I don't need to see the photos I just need a relaiable mass storage back up system for on the road. A notebook is fine if you have room and power but an iPod would be great. Just don't need that much storage. . . yet.

A device that should have come out the minute the iPod Photo was introduced. Good job on the delay there, apple.

Belkin Media reader works with non-photo iPod's.

Recieved Mine Yesterday

I got mine yesterday, and importing photos into the iPod seems close, if not as fast as, importing into iPhoto. I never used the Belkin devices but supposedly they are very slow. Now if only my Casio camera didn't require this damn dock...

Tested it this morning. Plug in the camera, and the iPod pops into an import photos mode. Churns away with a progress bar for a while, then gives you an option to clear the card.

Plug the iPod into your Mac and iPhoto treats the iPod like a camera card or USB connected camera. Like all Apple products, it simply works.

This is my third iPod upgrade. One of the reasons I bought this product was for this precise functionality. I'm kind of sick of reading about how people are pissed their non-iPod photo does not import photos.

Your iPod is still the amazing MP3 player it was designed to be (and presumably purchased for that purpose). You want to import photos with an all apple solution, then sell your old iPod, like I did, and buy an iPod photo. It really is a fab upgrade. With the nifty shareware Export Artwork app, I have all my album covers nicely displayed and the UI is very, very nice.

When I had a lowly 2G iPod, I could have really used the notes reader that was only for 3G iPods. Was I bitter that this new functionality was limited only to newer iPods? No, because the iPod still did everything I bought it to do. It did not suddenly become less powerful because a new feature was only available on a newer device.
