Iomega introduces portable, desktop USB hard drives
The bus-powered Iomega Portable Hard Drive requires no external power supply, sports a sleek and compact form factor that is smaller than most PDAs, and weighs 5.8 ounces (163 g). The 4200-rpm drive has a rugged aluminum enclosure and features a USB 2.0 (Hi-Speed USB) interface. A blue drive light signals disk activity, and an on/off switch allows laptop users to power down the device. Each drive includes a USB cable, supplementary power cord, and software suite CD. The Iomega Portable Hard Drive is now available in three capacities: 40GB ($120), 60GB ($150), and 80GB ($200); the 100GB ($300) version is expected to ship in the second quarter of 2005.
