Google offers OS X-themed frontend to service

updated 11:25 am EST, Wed March 16, 2005

Google X frontend

Google has launched a Mac OS X-themed interface to its Internet search engine. Google X features a Dock-like navigation bar that mimics the Mac OS X Dock's zooming feature. Many MacNN readers point to the tag line at the bottom of the page, which reads "Roses are red. Violets are blue. OS X rocks. Homage to you." operates a number of experimental and speciality search tools, including Google SMS, Google Scholar, and Google Suggest.

    Now... If only.

Now if they'd only release a Mac OSX version of Google desktop we'd ALL be happy!

The search features in SpotLight in 10.4 look a lot better than Google desktop. I suppose it'd be nice for those not upgrading, but that'd be about it.

    nice homage, but

I love the tributes that Google does, but it might have been more of a tribute if they had done the icons more photo-realistically. That's one of the identifying characteristics of OS X, and would have been a bit more striking, IMHO. Then again, I guess they're trying to keep within the Google style guidelines.

typical Mac user I am... never satisfied

No point. Google labs is where they show off their experiments, toys, cool things they're working on. And like it says, it's an homage to OS X.

    It is gone :o(

    It is gone. That bites.
Maybe it is just down for maintenance or something and will be back up later this evening.
