Propellerhead Reason 3.0
Propellerhead Software last week released version 3.0 of its music software system: , announced in January, now incorporates a powerful live instrument as well as a brand new sound bank, the Combinator device, a new sound browser and new Remote technology. Reason is a complete studio package with synths, samplers, drum machines, loop players, a sequencer, mixing, effects and more. The company says that the expanded sound bank in Reason 3.0 is "more than comprehensive, with sounds spanning from the expected to the obscure and abstract, offering enough material for any style of music." It is available now for $500. A demo for Mac OS X is available online.
Reason 3.0 is pre-configured with new Remote technology for use with over 35 controller keyboards and control surfaces on the market. Version 3.0 also comes with the MClass mastering tools, including a mastering EQ, a stereo imager, a sweet sounding compressor and a maximizer.
The new Combinator device is a grouping device, dubbed "a rack within the Reason rack," that lets the user load complex instrument patches consisting of any number of devices that can be played as a single instrument. "The result is an extremely flexible yet simple-to-understand way of playing and creating rich-sounding instrument patches, complete with effects and modulation setups. The Combinator ties the new additions together and with the Remote technology, the MClass effect and the many Combinator patches in the new sound bank, it turns the Reason rack into an instantly playable instrument."
