Apple launches \'iPod zone\'

Apple UK has launched a in London's subway system. MediaWeek reports that the launch of the new iPod shuffle has been backed by a major branding "takeover" of a Central London tube station: "The campaign to support the launch of the latest piece of hardware in the iPod range will run throughout the capital's Leicester Square station on poster sites, ticket gateways and station arches, creating what Apple has touted as an 'exclusive iPod zone.'" The report says the launch will also be supported by a television campaign, targetted at the Shuffle's "key, younger target audience on shows such as T4 and Hollyoaks." The "iPod zone" campaign is the first time a company has carried out a "blanket campaign at the station since Capital Radio seven years ago," according to the report.

    Cool! Saw this in SF!

I saw this in San Francisco over the New Years holiday -- Apple had blanketed an entire subway station up there (the one right next to the Apple Store on Market Street) and it was TOTALLY COOL!!! Every single piece of advertising in the entire subway station was for the iPod!! Absolutely loved it.

    Genius

Leicester Square is probably one of the busiest stations on the London Underground, and being right by the movie theatres, McDonald's, BK etc is very popular with the kids.

In fact putting ads on during T4 is even better. It's all Sunday morning, and *everyone* watches it whos around 13 and over. I've always wondered why they didn't advertise during that time.

    The MARTA system

in Atlanta has video boards running news and train schedules, not to mention ads from Coke and Apple. The Apple ads are only for the Shuffle and show dancers with about a mile of cords coming off of her flailing about. That combined with my 4G/wired remote must make everyone think that iPods = cord h***. BTW, When is that Bluetooth headset coming out?

    San Francisco

That was Powell Street station in San Francisco that got blanketed. I saw it every day as I rode through it on the BART. Pretty cool.
