OK, the PSP I can actually see as a potentially drawing some sales away from the iPod (though frankly, I don't expect it to be significant), but what does the XBox 2 have to do with Apple?
I don't see how a bulky PSP can be compared to the wearable iPod? Just because this device can play music doesn't mean they are competitors.
It's all about consumption and functionality. If I want to listen to music the iPod (or iPod-like device) is small, unobtrusive, and functional. If I want to play games, I am more forgiving to a bulkier/heavier unit based on how games are consumed at the consumer level.
Nobody will tolerate, in this day and age, carrying around a boom box on their shoulder to listen to music. The same principal applies to all this supposed competition to the iPod.
yawn
you know all my apple hating friends thought this PSP was an iPod killer too, until I asked them, does it have a hard drive?
no hard drive, means no competition with a hard drive music player.
of course the psp will sell well, and it should, but its a different type of machine than an ipod. I suppose it could impact the thinking of some people who just don't need that much music and they will say to themselves, my psp is good enough...
I finally broke down and bought an ipod from e-bay, a 5gb 1g for $75...I'm not going to replace it with anything thats diskless, cause I use it to store a lot of files, even non-music.
what I would consider jumping ship over, is one that plays music and video...yes apple, I want video. I use the audiobooks now, and sometimes it would be great to have video too.
This is such trickery with the QuickBooks $50 discount! Amazon.com has ALWAYS sold QuickBooks for $50 cheaper than the Apple Store, so this "temporary promotion" only gives you the exact same price that Amazon.com has always been selling QuickBooks for! The Apple Store's prices are outta control.
Not to mention that .Mac is $20 less than Apple web store.
What??? Are you telling me that the on-line store for a company sells stuff at a price HIGHER than an on-line retailer? I can't believe it. I mean, if it weren't true for EVERY manufacturer of hardware/software, I would be STUNNED!
Oh, yeah, you forgot to mention that Amazon actually sells macs and iPods cheaper then the apple store as well.
This is an awful program anyway. My accountant has been trying get me to use Quickbooks for a long time, and I finally acquiesed. I sent QB 05/Mac back after using it for an hour and went with, sigh, a PC and QB Pro. I still think MYOB Account Edge is better than QB Pro, but QB Pro does have some nice features, and it works seamlessly with my CPA. Quickbooks 2005 Mac is so limited and feeatureless that it is worthless.

between the PS portable and MS new Xbox, I'd say it is going to get a bit rougher for Apple. The Xbox2 seems really cool. Even though it shares some common technology with Apple, namely the processor, I don't think they'll be partnering up anytime soon. Too bad. As cool as the XBOX two is destined to be, it would be really cool with Apple, not to mention that we'll probably be left out. Maybe Apple and Sony could partner up instead.
