    Oy gavolt!

Is this thing for real? How does its performance match up to its analogue on the Mac, VPC/XP?

    They still wish

They still wish they could tremble before the Mighty G5. Play with your G4. Yea right like I'd cut off my d*** to become a woman. I'll stick with my dual G5. Keep your cherry.

    Does this violate GPL?

Hey, check out this thread on slashdot.

People are suggesting that Cherry OS is derived from PearPC, an open-source emulator.

(I hope this handles html tags okay.)

    Apple purchase

Will it go like Virtual PC and get purchased by Apple. Strategic implications here...

    Extremely slow

On my Athlon 2600+, CherryOS is unusably slow. My old PowerBook G3/233 with XPostFacto runs Panther at least 3 times as fast.
Nevertheless, if you don't own a Mac and only want to test how web pages look on the Mac or if your RealBasic app cross-compiled on Windows really works, CherryOS might be interesting.

@beyere: CherryOS is not nearly as fast as VirtualPC - it's not even as fast as Qemu. But it's faster than Bochs :-)

    Don't even bother

They took PearPC, an open source project, and wrapped it in a VB wrapper for Windows. And contrary to what this article says there is no drag & drop support.

Like someone already said, check out the Slashdot story.

    GPL Violation

Indications are strong that CherryOS is a re=packaged PearPC. CherryOS does not violate the GPL as long as the source is available. You can charge for binary distributions if you want, but the source must be freely if said source is derived from GPL'ed code.

    SLLLLOOOOOOOOWWWWW

Tsilou has it right -- CherryOS is completely unusable for normal activity, but if you have a couple of hours to kill for bootup and another hour to kill opening a web browser and checking that your HTML code works in Safari, then by all means spend $50 on a hijacked program.

    Get a Beige G3

If you just want to try out Mac OS X... you can get a Beige G3 for less than $50, and it'll run much much faster.

    flamebait article

Welcome to Macnn - post a flamebait article and let the kids go at it.

Right now the PearPC is about technical achievement - emulation of PowerPC architecture on x86 - not as a replacement of OS X on PPC. Comment on it being slow is like what Dr. Watson says when he is constipated: "no s*** Sherlock."
