updated 10:50 am EST, Wed March 9, 2005

Alias MotionBuilder PLE

Alias today launched (PLE), a free, non-commercial version of MotionBuilder 6 character animation software. Based on the MotionBuilder Standard feature set, the software offers the ability to learn one of the most advanced animation systems in the world for free. Alias MotionBuilder is a specialized animation tool designed to quickly generate high-quality character performances and animation. It is based on unique realtime architecture, intelligent character animation technology (HumanIK) and a Story Timeline performance environment.

It includes all the features and functionality found in MotionBuilder Standard including realtime performance, powerful animation blending, advanced character animation, and non-linear animation, including camera transitions, audio support and accompanying video tracks. MotionBuilder is based on the platform-independent 3D authoring and interchange format, FBX, that enables MotionBuilder PLE to import files seamlessly from any 3D software that exports the FBX file format. MotionBuilder PLE saves out a protected file format .FBL that can only be opened with MotionBuilder PLE. The ability to export FBX files has been disabled with MotionBuilder PLE.

Attendees of the 2005 Game Developers Conference can obtain their copy of Alias MotionBuilder PLE by visiting the Alias booth (No. 230) MotionBuilder PLE is also available for download.
