iPod economy growing
Envisioneering Group, a market research firm in Seaford, N.Y., says that and that it capitalizes on users' unique emotional attachment to the digital music player, according to the The Times-Picayune: "Few gadgets inspire the fervor and devotion of Apple's iPod. Owners of the digital music player do not simply see the iPod as a convenient way to listen to 50 Cent and Coldplay. They view the iPod as one of life's essentials, and they act accordingly, spending millions of dollars on iPod accessories....The companies producing iPod accessories seem to thrive on the style, inventiveness and simplicity of the iPod, responding to each new version with additional products to extend the usefulness, and even the style, of the music player."

iPod economy
It's this "iPod economy" that is going to help keep the iPod the top music player for the foreseeable future. While Dell, Creative, Rio, etc. may come up with competing players, they don't have the accessory market that has sprung up around the iPod. Sure, you can listen to an music player through a set of headphones, but if you want to easily plug it into your BMW, or use your Ford's or Dodge's steering wheel controls, or play it through your Bose SoundDock or Onkyo stereo, or protect it with one of dozens of available cases, or play songs from the leading and easiest to use online music store...for all that, you'll need an iPod.
Which is just fine, since that's the music player you really wanted, anyway.
