Safari, Mozilla browser usage increases globally

OneStat.com today reported that Mozilla and Safari have increased global browser usage market share since November 2004. The global usage share of Apple's Safari has increased with 0.3 percent from 0.91 percent to 1.21 percent since Novermber 2004; Mozilla browsers have a total global usage share of 8.45 percent, an increase of more than 1 percent since Novermber 2004. The company, however, said that Microsoft's Internet Explorer still dominates the global browser market with a global usage share of 87.28 percent, a 1.62 percent less as at the end of November 2004. Apple's Safari browser was third behind Microsoft IE (87.28%) and Mozilla (8.45%) and ahead of Netscape (1.11%) and Opera (1.09%), which were third and fourth, respectively.

Where does Mac IE fit into this? I guess it would be rolled under Microsoft IE as well?

No it doesn't get rolled under Windows IE as it is esentially a different product. Mac IE usage is probably so low, it doesn't even register anymore. With two great Mac browsers (Safari and Firefox), who on earth would use Mac IE?

Mac IE wouldn't be taken into account anyway since development has long since been halted on any newer Mac versions.

While I agree that I wish MacIE would just go away, there are some cases (such as my university) where it's left on all the computer lab machines, in addition to Safari. The common non-mac user will always fire it up, because they're never heard of Safari I guess. Maybe it's not as common, but I think there are still a lot of mac users that use IE instead of Safari.

True... almost 10 out of 10 students in front of the eMac use Mac IE.

Presumably Mac users account for at least a point or two of Firefox's share too, considering Macheads tend to be more tech-aware

Firefox has received a huge media coverage lately in Europe. I wonder what real market share it has.

I still use IE because it's still needed for online services at my bank. I also use Safari (mainly), Firefox and even Netscape... All I can say is that there isn't a single web browser that will completely meet my needs. Not even the Windows IE version...

Not a single browser that I can use for everything...I THOUGHT SO. I use OmniWeb 98% of the time, but when I wanted to file taxes on TurboTax.com, only FireFox worked for me (after trying Safari and OmniWeb).
