Motorola says E1060 not iTunes phone

E1060 not iTunes phone


A Motorola spokesperson confirmed today that the Motorola E1060 (announced Monday) is . "E1060 was used to demonstate iTunes client; however, it is not our iTunes product." A Reuters article on Monday said "the E1060 model which is aimed at music afficianados and which will feature iTunes Music Player," however this is not the case. "In an Apple-like fashion, Motorola is keeping the first iTunes enabled phone under very close wraps," reports MobileTracker, "while Motorola wanted to show off the software, it appears the company wanted to keep the device secret."

    good news actually

    That phone was likely to be very expensive. I remember Apple mentioning their phone would be affordable. Plus, Motorola phones don't have a very good UI. I'm hoping Apple has some input on that too. Something similar to Sony Ericsson phones would be nice, but better obviously.

    Add-on?

    Has anyone considered that Motorola may introduce an add-on to the iPod to make it a phone? It sounds crazy and it probably wouldn't win any ergonomics awards but why would they intro the app on a phone that is scheduled for a Q4 intro when the iTunes phone is scheduled for a Q2 intro? There must be something very unique about hardware.

    add-on

    that's what I have imagined... an add-on to the iPod.

    Apple likes to control the manufacture and design of their hardware. I cannot imagine them allowing anyone to make an "iPod phone" as a completely standalone piece of hardware. But, I could be wrong.

    Another idea for add-ons:

    A collapsible portable keypad? I use my iPod as an organizer but without my tower or laptop I cannot input into it. Add-ons to make iPod a more fully-functional organizer could be a PDA killer!

    Would it be possible to attach a lens unit and turn iPod photo into a portable camera, just like videophones can do?

    add-on stupid idea

    How can a device as complicated as a phone be an ad-on to the ipod? Where is the keypad and and antenna gonna go? Is the iPod gonna run the phone operating system, manage the menues, voice mail, and 3-way calling? Is the cell phone gonna draw it's power from the iPod battery?

    From what we've heard from Moto and Apple, the phone should fall into the midrange in cost.. I don't expect it to be anything like the V3 V6 or V8...(expensive) but it would seem to make sense for Moto to allow users to add iTunes to those phones if they want..(pay that much for a phone, it'd be nice)

    I expect the phone to fall in the E series of phones (entertainment).. E398, E1000, E1060, E378i, E1120..

    It'd be nice to see it come as a Vxxx series flip phone as well.. (v620, v635, etc.)

    I do wish they'd fix Bluetooth iSyncing and add Salling Clicker compat. to their phones tho... Why should I have to choose between great MacOS X support (SonyEricson) and great RF (Moto)? Damnit, I'm a paying customer, and I demand both! (Also a shareholder..) I'd grab the v620 or the soon to be released v635 ASAP if I saw that this Moto/Apple phone partnership was leading to better iSync and Salling Clicker support... I prob. will get a Vxxx sooner or later... My old p280 needs to be replaced (broken handsfree jack)

    I was surprised when Moto announced it as an iTunes phone because it's precisely the sort of thing that Apple was always trying to avoid by not licensing its platform (one might think of iTunes as a platform by now) to third parties. It did it once but killed it eventually, since it didn’t work the way Jobs wanted it to.
    E1060 looks like a downmarket device, and not in line with Apple’s aesthetic. I’m sure there’ll be something different/better, but what exactly only Moto and Apple know and even that is debatable.

    my dream accessory

    ...would be a bluetooth headset/headphones that would work with both the iPod and a mobile phone. I do a lot of hiking, snowboarding, climbing, you name it. I alway use my iPod until my phone rings then have to stop, bring out the phone, then switch back to the iPod until someone inevitably calls again in 10 minutes.

    I would like to be able to switch between the two using a headset. The iPod would pause when the phone rings until I switch back. I would pay a good amount for that. I'm sure even people who wouldn't use it for the same purposes I do would pay for that. Executives for example. Even a wired version with splitter perhaps, with an inline module that displayed the song and in the case of a call, the caller id.

    I'm going to start making this in fact. I'm no expert in manufacturing but I'm pretty good in wood carving and rebuilding car engines. I should have a prototype for you soon :)

    Just in case, I've sent this to Apple so hopefully they take care of this for me.

    How about just a slot for the Shuffle, as opposed to an add-on to the iPod? Maybe the phone interface would show the playlists, etc.

    The combination would be a pretty hot item if they pulled it off right.
