New Apple marketing VP

Hewlett-Packard's top marketing executive is leaving the company for , just days after the forced resignation of HP CEO Carly Fiorina--although the departure is unrelated and was made sometime ago, according to the report. CNET News.com reports that Allison Johnson was HP's senior vice president of marketing and led the company's public-relations campaign during the contentious proxy battle over the acquisition of Compaq as well as the "+HP = everything is possible" advertising campaign that followed the deal's closure. "The marketing guru is leaving HP to take a top marketing post at Apple Computer. She will become vice president of worldwide marketing communications, reporting to CEO Steve Jobs.... At Apple, Johnson will be responsible for Apple's global advertising and related efforts."

    Advertising OSX?

Maybe now we'll see some ads for OSX, which is arguably the single best reason to get a Mac. I think the +HP ads have had a good mix of image-branding and practical info, which Apple is in desperate need of. So, c'mon Allison, show the world what OSX is really like!

    Wow

Hmmm... another hire from the PC World. I'm sure there were a few qualified Apple employees who were on the "we promote from within" plan who are disappointed that Steve is trawling PC companes for the best talent.

    Results matter...

The HP 'Picture Book" ads are killer - I'm sure Steve watched those and thought "Why wasn't that and Apple ad? In fact, those are the sort of ades iLife and iWork need - plain old people doing cool things with a computer.

    She worked for Apple b4

Johnson joined HP in January 1999 after serving as director of corporate communications for IBM and Netscape. She brings a diverse combination of business strategy, brand strategy and culture change experience to her role. She has held marketing and communications positions with Apple Computer, Wells Fargo Bank and Chemical Banking Corp.

    Agencies make commercials

Folks, the ad agency for HP created those commercials, not the head of marketing. She simply said yes. For that, she should be admired.
