Apple's iPod everywhere at MS developer conference

updated 07:40 pm EST, Tue February 8, 2005

iPod at MS dev conference

Apple may have found a way to upstage Microsoft at its own developer conference. CNET News.com reports that several companies were (i.e., as part of raffle prizes) to attract developers to their booth and/or company websites. "One thing that many of the exhibitors had in common was the raffle prize item they used to lure people to their booths: Apple Computer's iPod. 'Win an iPod,' boasts a sign at the Kinitos booth. Ditto at PreEmptive Solutions. Business Objects tried to one-up the others by offering a first prize of an iPod plus $10 worth of iTunes. Although the iPod has little connection to Microsoft's Visual Studio developer tools, there is no question it is hot, hot, hot."

    Visual Studio

What's the best thing XCode has over Visual Studio? Price! The former is free, the latter is...?

Anyone out there who uses both care to comment on ease of use? I've never used Visual Studio, so I don't know.

    C

    C. You can actually use XCode for C. Visual Studio is painful at best.

    I don't think anyone would/could argue that.

    Works both ways

On Apple's and Pixar's internal retreats they usually have sweepstakes where the winners get installation CDs with Windows XP.

    Not.

    Life

Life is full of little moments of sweet joy. While this definitely not the happiest moment of my life, it really has made a great finish to what was a hectic day.

    Other Prizes ...

Now let's be fair. There was another booth offering a contest where the first prize was a top-of the line Dell system complete with Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Office. Second prize was two of these systems.
