Canto Cumulus 6.5

Canto has released , an update to its digital asset management system. Version 6.5 offers simplified administration with enhanced authentication methods including LDAP support, new authentication APIs for integration into existing security infrastructures, and a new Server Console, a centralized administration tool that integrates the existing Remote Admin and User Manager modules with new Activity Monitor, Backup Manager and Log Manager modules. Cumulus 6.5 Single User ($70), Workgroup ($3240) and Enterprise ($385 for single client) are immediately available in English, German, French and Japanese.

Canto also said the update includes dramatic enhancements to its permissions management, including easier setup, performance improvements, and expanded application. Canto also added new Actions and Metadata Templates to improve workflow. Cumulus Actions help users define sets of procedures, allowing several procedures to be performed in a single step. In addition, users can now create, modify or use Metadata Templates that are sets of preset field values.

"Having LDAP authentication in Cumulus 6.5 is truly an asset, and I am even happier to see the automated catalog backups, and the Log Manager. I believe these two items will get the most applause, and wide spread usage among customers," said Gerry Siebel, Senior Programmer at Prepress Solution Specialist Carey Digital. "Being able to schedule backups of your catalogs adds to the customers' security. Being able to easily view the logs helps them track, justify, and improve its usability."

Cumulus 6.5 now supports Image Color Management (ICM) for accurate and consistent color reproduction. It also offers enhanced CMYK support in the Pixel Image Converter, and allows lossless rotation of JPEG originals without affecting the original image quality. Version 6.5 also offers a customizable version of the 'Quicksearch' function, easily selectable queries, the ability to find duplicates and records of which the assets are missing, and more.
