Apple's 'Made for iPod' program worries some

Apple\'s \'Made for iPod\'
Apple's quiet introduction of a has several smaller iPod accessory manufacturers worried; however, Apple says that it is no plans to enter the accessory market--beyond the $29 water proof case that it announced at Macworld Expo--and says the "'Made for iPod' program seeks to formalize how accessory makers work with Apple -- while also preventing consumers from getting stuck with knockoff products that don't perform as advertised. ... Accessory makers that have been briefed about Apple's plan say it will help more than hurt....Made for iPod is essentially a way to make sure all electronics accessories work properly with the iPod. It doesn't apply to nontechnical products, such as cases or polishes. Those who agree to follow Apple's technical specifications will be able to include a 'Made for iPod' logo on their packaging," which should start appearing within a few weeks, according to the report.

Why Not?

Apple promises that an iPod offers a seamless, pain-free experience.
If you buy an iPod accessory that doesn't fit or work properly, it dulls the iPod experience.
So, why shouldn't Apple test products and give the ones that work and enhance the iPod experience a "Made for iPod" sticker? Can it be that much of a problem if you produce a good product?
It's fair for the customer and fair for Apple. There's nothing worse than a sour customer. Apple has survived all these years because of largely happy customers and users.

I would think that this would provide a way for some manufactures to get prerelease iPods so that they could release their case at the same time as the product announcement. That would be a good thing.

Don't forget that Apple has cornered the market for iPod footware. I feel for the small time hosiery makers that were driven out of business by Apple's dominance.

The other day, I saw a gold plated headphone Y cable for $30. If these jokers are put out of business, good. You can (and should) get a perfectly reasonable splitter for $5.
