Seriously. Even the quoted text says 'AAC'. Whoever posted this needs to look at their TLA's and try again. A-A-C.
A major glitch on a new device that got a lot of very public attention, and Apple makes the "whole widget" here...what gives? This sounds like something Microsoft would pull.
IF Microsoft made hardware.
Which they don't.
And how long until the Mac-haters are beating the drum about this?
Bad. Bad. Very bad.
The chip used in the iPod shuffle may only support AAC files that adhere to the standards set forth by the MPEG group. A LOT of developers like to add their own hooks and/or take short cuts when implementing technologies to either save money or time.
The USB port incompatibility issue is not just related to Macs and the iPod shuffle. There are other USB devices that do not fit into USB ports where they have been positioned too close to other ports and or casings. Purchasing an inexpensive USB extension cable is the easiest and cheapest fix.
I found 1 Ft. USB extension cables for 46¢. Shipping is $6.50 So a quantity puchase will keep down the total price.

If they're that cheap, Apple should include one in the box.
Maybe this has to do with alternate AAC formats like the one developed by Real.
Nope..docks are not included with the 20gig iPod..why should they include a cable when it works wih all current mac lineups? Granted they certainly do include a extension cable with keyboards..but maybe there is no cable included to keep the price at a bare minimum..maybe its just to sell more docks! Either way..I wouldn't spend a split second on this nobrainer..go buy a cable instead of whining about having to wait for a dock! (You're dock order will most likely come earlier than it states anyway!)
I think they should have included a USB cable by the way..just like the way they include a firewire and a usb cable with all the other iPod lineup..maybe it had something to do with the packaging?

What gives?
Is this due to the settings that iTunes uses (in which case can they tell us what they are)? Since iTunes uses Quicktime to do the encoding, shouldn't any aac file encoded with Quicktime Player or another Quicktime based app be able to work?
