FW 800 cable for iPod

, a FireWire 800 cable to attach your iPod to a Mac or PC. Dock800 is a dock-to-FireWire 800 cable for communicating with and charging iPods, which the company says allows maximum flexibility in managing the usage of FireWire ports. "Since FireWire 400 ports are at a premium, by using the Dock800 cable, you're making efficient use of your FireWire ports," said Paul Griffin, President of Griffin Technology. The cable is being previewed at Macworld Expo in Booth 1917. It will ship in the first quarter of 2005 for $15.

    Hey

Does this mean the transfers to my iPod would be twice as fast (well, twice as fast assuming I had a Firewire 800 port).

    speed

the iPod itself is fw400 so there will be no gain in speed.

    pointless

You can get FW800-FW400 adapters for under $10. Besides, are you REALLY going to have to use the FW800 port as your last resort enough to where you need something like that?

Ooh, $10! I could save 5 bucks on this thing, just need to carry around another item!

And if you have several firewire 400 drives, and nothing in your 800 port, then sure.

Some people apparently don't understand economics. Griffin has a history of releasing products that people want (I take this solely from the fact that (a) they make products, and (b) they haven't gone out of business). Ergo, don't you think they might have an idea of what their iPod using clientelle are looking and asking for?
