Near-Time Current preview

Near-Time today released a preview version of , a personal version of Near-Time's Flow collaborative content management system. Leveraging a standards-driven architecture, it allows individuals to create and manage online content. A document can be developed in Current from many sources simultaneously; it features an integrated text processor with automated extraction of web content via the integrated web browser. Current supports QuickTime, photos, html pages, and mp3 files as well as Smart Folios. The preview release is free, while the release version will be $30.

Current also maintains a history of each page and application file along a version bar, allowing the user to select previous drafts at the click of a button. Content from Current can be published to Weblogs via Blogger and MetaWeblog APIs, as RSS feeds or to Apple iDisk. This gives users one tool for authoring, gathering, organizing, and the publishing of content, eliminating the need for several stand-alone applications. Smart Folios allow RSS & Atom feeds and other Current documents to be searched for specific topics or keywords.

"We have developed Current to help people maximize the power of the Internet for the development of their own content," said Reid Conrad, president and CEO of Near-Time, Inc. "Current combines the best features of word processing, RSS reading, Weblog publishing, and knowledge management tools eliminating the need for several stand-alone applications. It's an exciting new tool for the Mac community."

Built upon a standards-based architecture, Current provides essential information integration capabilities for individual users. Standards enable Current users to access, manage, and repurpose content. Supported standards include XML, HTML, FTP, WebDav, SMTP, iDisk, RSS, and Web logs (via Atom).
