Soundtrack EOL\'d
Apple has quietly removed all mention of its entry-level Soundtrack music composition software from the and that the company would no longer honor backorders, would not accept any new orders, and would not provide automatic order conversion. The audio application was introduced at Macworld Expo in July of 2003, is no longer available for sale from Apple Store. Apple debuted the product at a price of $300, but later reduced it to $200.

I just forked out for the Production Suite in November. I thought I was buying a suite of four products, now it seems otherwise. Future support? I don't think so! Of course, it's nothing new for Apple to sell people a "pig in a poke"! One can only speculate negatively on what's going to happen to AppleWorks. It's funny...I usually get kissed before I get f*cked!

Maybe it means that future upgrades to the Production Suite will include Logic Pro instead ? Since GarageBand has from the beginning been in dire need of a complete rewrite ( no music software I use is as processor heavy as GB is ) perhaps SoundTrack in a new incarnation will be branded as GB2 in iLife 5 ? We'll find out on tuesday, and hold our pessimism until then, now won't we ? :)

It is kinda silly to have 4 applications that do the same thing and really work the same.

I can see how garageband and future versions of garageband would marginalize soundtrack. My bet is that soundtrack became the core of garageband 2 and that one of the logic apps will be tweaked to fill the current role of soundtrack. How many audio apps does apple nead anyway?

Perhaps you should wait until next week before jumping to such conclusions.

I've used Logic Pro, Soundtrack, and GarageBand. Of the 3, I liked Soundtrack was the best. In terms of arranging and editing loops, it's great and is better than GarageBand in terms of processor usage (no stats... just my observation).
Logic is in a whole 'nother world. You actually have to sit down and learn it, whereas ST and GB are much more intuitive.
Oh yeah - GB AFAIK can only utilize and export audio at 44 khz. I've used Soundtrack importing/exporting up to 96 Mhz audio.
I can sorta see where they are going with their audio apps, and it makes some sense... I'm just selfishly pissed at the moment. Why develop an audio app that is only going to have a lifecycle of 1.5 years?

GarageBand- multitrack editing application allowing one track of audio to be recorded at a time.
GarageBand Pro- multitrack editing application allowing simultaneous recording of audio tracks with a supported audio interface, as well as direct editing of iMovie audio/music tracks with realtime viewing of video during the composition process.
I'm off my meds....forgive.
