    You know what this means!

(Besides Audiovox being sued by Apple for mentioning a flash MP3 player, which people could think implies its an iPod or implies Apple's coming out with a flash-based ipod - Damn! Just got served myself with a lawsuit, need to keep my mouth closed!)

Apple's announcing the Powerbook G5s next week! Its a slam dunk now!

    bummer.

You only get one ear bud? That's pretty lame. Most of the music I like to listen to is in stereo ;)

    5 GB flash player?

For $249? Um, probably not. Again, all the Audiovox press release says is the model in question, the MP1055HD (note the HD in the product name) has 5 GB of embedded memory. Judging from the amount of space available ("embedded memory" in Audiovox-parlance), the price, and the battery life ("16 hours" playback, according to the press release...wouldn't a flash-based player have better battery life?), I'm going to guess this isn't a flash-based player but just some misguided assumptions on MacNN's part.

Wouldn't you expect 5 GB of flash memory to cost significantly more, not less than the $300 256MB/1.3 MP digicam/audio player?

Granted the press release is less than clear, but try not to add information that's not there. Embedded memory != flash memory.

    dumb..

what is their excuse for not supporting the superior AAC format? It could have replaced the Mp3 by now...

    AAC format superior?

What makes you say that? Honest question, not a flame. I've read a detailed comparison between the major formats, and my recollection was that lame-encoded mp3 was overall a little better at 128k.

In any event, personally I go for higher bitrates. In fact I re-ripped almost all my CDs recently in Apple Lossless.
