Konica color laser printer
Konica Minolta today introduced its color laser alternative to inkjet printers: the magicolor 2400 series is an affordable color solution designed for the home office user and the small business environment. Replacing its magicolor 2300 family of printers, the new printer series is nearly 20% smaller, almost 30% lighter (now 48lbs) and 25% faster than their predecessors. Both the magicolor models print up to 2400 dpi resolution on any type or grade of paper and also offer print monochrome speeds of 20 ppm as well as 5 ppm color print speeds. The magicolor printers can handle up to 8.5" x 14" (legal) size sheets of various types of media, including plain paper, letterhead, thick stock, glossy stock, OHP transparencies, laser-quality labels, and envelopes. The Mac-compatible magicolor 2400DL offers an Ethernet and USB 2.0 port and is expected to cost $500.
The magicolor 2400's feature 32MB of onboard memory and Konica Minolta's polymer toner technology which uses tiny, uniform-sized particles that are encapsulated in a proprietary compound to improve fusing on most media--even coarse, recycled paper. "As a result, prints are more durable, with images and text that don't smear or fade. It also yields less waste, in the form of toner dust that remains on the surfaces of drum cartridges, transfer belt units, and rollers after a page has printed." Konica says that this toner technology, along with the printer's automatic color calibration, produces smoother halftones, finer lines, more consistent colors, and crisper text--regardless of print quality selected or media type used.
The new printers come with factory-installed consumables, including the cyan, magenta, yellow, and black toners, which last up to 4,500 prints. The company says the drum cartridge can print up to 45,000 pages. The printers feature a desktop status display, which allows users to check the print job queue, control the printer operation, and check consumable levels as well as an easy-to-use troubleshooting design that offers paper jam recovery and toner replacement via the front of the printer.
According to Konica, the magicolor 2430 DL is the first color laser printer that comes equipped with camera direct photo printing, which lets the user print pictures directly from a PictBridge-enabled digital camera with no PC required.
