Hitachi to double size of iPod mini drive in 2005

Hitachi says it is planning to at least double the capacity of its 1-inch Microdrive hard-disk drive within this year, paving the way for a , according to IDG News Service. Apple has used the 1-inch 4GB drive in its very popular iPod mini, but rumors have suggested that next week Apple will upgrade the capacity of iPod mini to 5GB, utilizing a similar drive from Seagate. The report says that Hitachi expects that new drives are due in the second half of this year and will be able to hold between 8GB and 10GB of data.
