Xsan shipping delays

Apple said today that it will for shipping its Xsan storage management software, according to CNET News.com. The $1,000 product, which serves as a file system for storage gear, was scheduled to launch by Monday, the last day of autumn, but has been held back. "Xsan will not ship this year; it will ship early next year," Apple said. The company would not say what caused the delay. The product is designed to further Apple's position in the clustering market. Xsan allows multiple computers to concurrently access terabytes worth of storage housed on Xserve RAID disks, Apple's rack-mounted storage system.

    Professional Credibility

Apple need to realise that they have no history of credibility in this area. Continual failure to deliver only adds to the lack of belief in their ability to deliver these products. Get it right and on time or don't bother to trumpet your achievements.

Means you do not release software that does not function properly.

    I agree

Better to miss a deadline than to alienate a market with c*** code.

Yeah, but when MS does this, everyone snickers and laughs.

Of course, because when MS misses the deadline they still alienate the market with c*** code, it's just delayed c*** code. Duh.

    Dear Unprofessional creda

releasing a product like xsan into the marked when you know it has some nasty bugs left will be suicide. Delaying it until the bugs has been fixed is thus a wise decision. I have seen the beta in action and must say it looks promising, but it still had flaws. If you want to centralize your storage and give everyone access to the same storage trough Xsan you better be shure it works proberly. Apple Does not feel Confident, that this is the case yet. If one look on the bright site this delay might mean that you will be able to upgrade to the version needed for tiger at er very reasonable price. The Maximum file size of the xsan is defined by the maximum file size of the operating system. Tiger should increase the maximum file size quite a lot. The last thought depends of cause on the releasedate og Xsan and the releasedate of
    Tiger.
