Unfortuantely....not

12/09, 04:11pm reply

I called my local Saab dealership in excitement the minute I read this. Unfortunately, I talked to local and Saab Corporate techs which confirmed that they DO have a kit in the center console that will power the iPod (and other MP3 players) BUT you will NOT be able to see song info, playlists, etc. on the Saab display "Infotainment Unit" nor control the iPod from the steering wheel controls. The only thing you can control is the volume, bass, and treble since it utilizes an AUX port on the stereo. That's it! What a bummer! I was ready to jump on this but it is just a glorfied iTrip in my opinion. Unless we hear different...it sounds like it's not close to the BMW/iPod integration. Someone please prove otherwise with pictures if they get one!

Second that

I just want to encourage others to verify information before posting it on such widespread news venue. I cannot say the information that "according to one MacNN reader" is true or not, but based on my experience and knowledge about this particular subject (Saab 9-3s), I find this highly dubious, based on the fact that he/she got the info from their Parts department.

Again, this is my opinion, I don't work for Apple or Saab. I can only hope that it is true...but I don't think so.

I find it unfortunate that other sources on the web are quoting THIS story. So the proliferation of rumors & untruths are spread.

Not like the iTrip

03/16, 04:41pm reply

It is true that the controls are limited to volume, bass, and trebel, but it it hardly like the iTrip as it's not transmitting through a radio signal. The iPod is playing directly through the stereo. iTrip was an incredible waste of money in my opinion as the quality of sound was the equivalent to a poorly tuned radio station. The MP3 player adapter kit was pricey ($95 for adapter and install), but it's a great option to allow you to use your iPod in your car when you don't have a tape deck for the tape adapter.
