    NO!

My God, that would suck! In this time of mega-mergers, it wouldn't surprise me. I would have to go out and get the latest and greatest just prior to "the demise".

    Good Article

The piece written by ars techinca was quite good actually, read it before calling it dumb. The conclusion drawn was 'While the prospects of an IBM-Apple combination makes for interesting conversation, the likelihood of it happening is slim to none.'

    Cheers!

    I doubt the rumors...

IBM got out of the PC business because it is a loss leader for them.

I think IBM is just content with making CPUs for PCs. And, demand will be high next year with Apple, Nintendo, Microsoft (via XBox 2 / Next), and Sony (Cell processor for PS3) all needing them for their respective boxes.

    What me worry?

    If it ain't broke...

IBM is smart getting out of the PC biz. With generic box stuffers like Dell commanding the PC market based solely on price, IBM couldn't really compete. IBM actually made some good laptops.

IBM has become a huge R&D driven company and supplying their processors and such to other companies is much simpler than dealing with consumers directly. Why on earth would they want to get back into that by acquiring Apple?
