How can a US resident purchase tunes from the Canadian Store?
My fav band has an exclusive track that I can't purchase because it's only listed in the Canadian store.
Is there any way I can purchase this track?
I don't think you can unless you have a credit card with a Canadian billing address. Just like Canadians aren't able to purchase UK-only music, US-only music, etc.
If Apple only lists it in the Canadian store, it means they only have the rights to sell it in Canada.
This sucks!
i was browsing the new iTMS and I discovered a few differences with the US store: first, you cannot sign-in with an AOL account like it's the case accross the border, you must register with Apple.
Second, for the latest Eminem album (didn't have the time to check with others), individual tracks are 0,99$ CDN (great!) but the whole album is sold for... 19,98$ !! the same album is sold 9,99$ US on the US iTMS and 9,99 CDN on iTunes' canadian competitor, Archambeault (http://www.archambault.ca/store/product.asp?sku=T0016129890113&type=7 ) I also noticed that the 3 bonus tracks are only sold with the whole album with Apple but you can buy them as single with Archambeault!
most album are sold for 9,99$ CDN but I find strange that they cannot raise their price for a charity song but gladly DOUBLES album price for no apparent reason..
Send feedback to Apple about that. Maybe they'll change it.
Ok..So now Apple allows us to finally get access to iTMS at a cut rate price of 0.99 Canadian.. such a better deal than the pood buggers south of the border at $0.99 US a track....
Apple Canada Web Store still wants $1749 for a base iMac G5 while the US Apple Store sells the same box for $1299... now let's see.. I pull up Apple's calculator, update currency conversion and find that $1299 US converts to $1556 CAN... Does Apple Canada bundle in 192 iTunes downloads to help in the conversion? Or should we use the conversion rate of $0.83US to $0.99CAN to get a few more downloads?
Terribly frustrating for an Apple VAR in Canada to have to wait for 2 months to get a 1.6 iMac from a distributor while the Apple Canada Web store shows 1-3 business days delivery....
Should I remain an Apple VAR? or just tell my clients to go online for their equipment and I will tell sell themmy services to set them up and install my software.
When Apple Web Store sells a base eMac for $1049 CAN to anyone with a credit card (converting US online price in Can funds should put the price at $957).
Apple Authorised distributors sell the same eMac to a VAR for $1021. The VAR makes $38 dollars on the sale to an end user if he matches the on-line price.
Damn!!! I make more money selling a couple of USB hubs than I do on an Apple computer.
As much as I love working with Macs and OS X, I'm getting fed up with trading dollars.
and I thought this rollout would stop the complaining...
I read your post and I do agree with all your points, but my advice to you would be to sit tight if you can for just a little longer. Thanks to our horribly mismanaged economy and staggering debt, the Loonie is slowly gaining ground against the dollar, so within a year or two I think you can expect that it will be CHEAPER to buy a Mac in Canada than to buy one in the US if the trend continues. Then you'll be selling more Macs than you can get your hands on, both to Canadians and to US bargain hunters.
Good luck, and hopefully I'll be up there by the time the "flip" occurs.

Apple has nothing to do with setting the price, that comes from the artist and their respective label.

Good stuff
Good to see us finally brought into the fold.
What happens to music previously purchased from iTMS in the U.S. once things get switched over?
