    Just as expected

I knew that Apple would not meet its proposed launch date on the very day that it was first announced but didn't want to be a nay-sayer who would be berated by other readers. Well, it turns out that my hunches were correct, and I doubt that "soon" will even be within a week. It would have been nice to hear an explanation, but it probably is regarding the inability to close an important contract, so we may never hear the reason for the delay.

    Not surprising

Steve did his typical thing of announcing something that is totally dependent on a third party for a date that they can't possibly deliver on.

    It wouldn't suprise me

It wouldn't surprise me that it is after Jan. 1 when the iTMS opens.
I do not live in Canada but I think it blows that the iTMS Canada wasn't just a few months after the U.S store opened. If not second definitely third on the list.

Oh well at least Canada will get iTMS before Windows gets Longhorn. Maybe ;0)

    Third parties...

Perhaps those third parties Apple was relying on were less than dependable. It has been a long time coming, as a Canadian i know that quite well. I wish that Apple had demonstrated such an interest in the Canadian market before, but it's welcome now, and I'm sure they're doing their best to capitalize on the Christmas season sales by getting the iTMS open as soon as they can.

Well, according to MacOSRumors.com (no, not the crappy macrumors.com), it looks like it'll only be in the beginning of the year due to some more licensing issues which, obviously, were still not worked out when Apple made their delivery predictions, as usual.

Yes, I'm sure that prior to now Apple's just been sitting on their hands saying "we don't want to sell to Canada".

"Yes, I'm sure that prior to now Apple's just been sitting on their hands saying "we don't want to sell to Canada"

Well, they certainly haven't been clamouring at the doors to get into Canada, that's for sure.

When the iTMS first opened in the States I got in touch with the president of the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency (http://www.cmrra.ca), David Basskin. I asked him what the deal was; if Apple has approached them for a similar deal here in Canada. The solid answer was no, they hadn't but that the CMRRA was very open to the idea.

If you do a google search for ""David Basskin" iTMS" you'll find lots of articles and info about how Apple has only very recently come to the CMRRA about licensing music in Canada.

This delay isn't anything on Canada's licensing agency's side but it is, as much as you don't want to think so, on Apple's side.
