Creative takes on Apple with trade-in promo

Creative takes on Apple

for a share of the MP3 player market. Last Friday, Creative offered heavy discounts on its Zen Micro digital music player--even offering it for free--to those who would trade-in their iPod. However, the Straits Times says that "Apple fans were not easily tempted though. The promotion saw just 20 people give up their iPods. Apple currently has a 54 per cent slice of the MP3 pie. Creative has just 16.5 per cent but wants that figure increased to 40 per cent. The Sunday Times rounds up a die-hard iPod mini fan and a Zen Micro convert and asked them why they think their little player rocks harder than its competitor."

    Dell tried and fail

Why do they think the trade-in would work for them?

    it's not an iPod

For once, people are craving something from Apple because it is distinctly Apple. Viva la iPod, it shall never be surpassed in it's covetedness.

    Free iPods!

Just throw together some c***, claim you are going to steal away marketshare from Apple, then set up the trade in!

I guess iPods are scarce where this company is located and they are DESPERATE to get their hands on one.

    Re-sell

So what is Creative going to do with those "20" iPods they got? I bet everyone in that company would like one..."to see what the competition is like".

    broken ipods?

you know, if my iPod is broken and out of warranty then I'd be tempted just to get a new player on the cheap. I don't think that it would be able to play my AAC songs though :|

    Those without an iPod...

don't get it. The scroll wheel is the advantage. The name means nothing. Not getting carpal tunnel syndrom scrolling through your music collection means everything.

    And those 20 ...

... were old 1G, 2G and 3G models folks who've already upgraded to 4G models needed to dump anyway.

    No Tap Backs Either!

And don't forget: when the Zen folks realize they've been screwed, they get to *BUY* a nice new iPod all over again - Apple doesn't offer free iPods for Zens!!!
