Two Execs leave Apple
Two Apple Computer executives in recent weeks, including the Macintosh unit's head of engineering, according to a CNET News.com that partially confirms an earlier report by AppleInsider: "Tim Bucher, who became head of Mac product engineering earlier this year, left the company on Nov. 15. An Apple representative confirmed the departure Monday but did not give a reason. Also departing in recent weeks was Mark Wilhelm, the vice president in charge of the company's AppleCare support unit. Apple has not named a successor for Bucher but said a team of workers is overseeing engineering efforts and reporting to executive vice president Tim Cook, the leader of Apple's Mac unit and also the head of the company's overall sales and operations."

A hidden messafe here?
I usually refrain from speculating like this, but this time I can't help myself. So, for the fun (?) of it, here goes:
First, Jon Rubinstein, clearly a top asset in Job's mind, moves from being chief of Mac hardware engineering to head the iPod division. Now, his successor in the Mac division quits. Is developing Mac hardware something unpleasant now at Apple? Something given less and less priority? Something without a future?
Well, I don't want to think so, really. The G5 models kinda proves Apple still invests a lot in the Mac. But, with the success of the iPod and a continually diminishing market share for the Mac, one wonders...
But, as they say, it's not the market share, it's the profit...
