Not all Apple Stores Cool
I've been to two Apple stores - the one here in Tokyo and the one in Honolulu Hawaii. The Tokyo one is quite nice, with an atmosphere that encourages you to look and try the products.
The Honolulu store made me feel like I wasn't wanted. Two seconds after walking in the door I was accosted by two sales people asking me if I needed help before I even had a chance to get my bearings and look around. After I explained that I had just entered the store, and I was accosted by another sales staff asking the same thing. I've seen this tactic before from other Honolulu stores that want to overwhelm tourists before they can think for themselves.
It got worse - after I asked a question about availability of the new pro version of Office, I was told it wasn't in stock but could order it. I explained that Microsoft wouldn't send to Japan (where I live) and that it's difficult to purchase English software versions, the staff member then snapped that he didn't know or care how things worked in Japan. What a jerk!
I then looked around a bit more, and wanted to ask the price of a newly released portable iPod speaker set. I don't know why I had to ask the price - they should have been posted like in other Apple stores. The person who responded (different individual) was more polite, but seemed confused to hear such a question.
It wouldn't suprise me that the Honolulu store isn't doing so well. I know I won't likely return there when I go back home the next time...
