I have to agree with turtle777 here. It is going to sell like crazy. Teeny bopers will love them as they will match their outfit, and it is much more "cool" then a plastic case. Great stocking stuffer!

I have 3 cousins who are litterally, "Anti-Mac." But they all want - and are getting - iPods this holiday! Ok, I can't afford to get them their iPods, but I'll reinforce the Apple Logo with the socks :)

I think Steve was right about the overpriced cases companies sell for the same function. Plus for those whom put our iPods in our pockets this helps keep the scratches down to a minimum and it doesn't require a 4G iPod!
I'll pick some up to give to my family and friends and see how they like them.

Holy c***. You know, get a sense of humor people. This is a silly gift. Is $30 a bit high for socks? Sure. But who cares?? They're fun! For some folks this will be the perfect "I want to spend $30 more on my kid/partner/parent" gift. And yes Apple will make a killing.

It's a good thing you Scrooges don't want to buy any. They're gonna be all sold out.

Whoever is inferring that the "R&D" for these socks delayed a "headless iMac" or any other such nonsense is an idiot.

In fact, anyone who b****** that focusing on iPods means Apple is focusing less on Macs is an idiot. It should be obvious that the profit margins on iPods and its incredible market share can ONLY mean good news for Mac users. And lovers of socks with Apple logos. But mostly Mac users.

Not news, just a rip-off

iSocks are the worst product Apple has produced. Actually the product itself isn't such a bad idea. However, gouging the consumer for this much for a pack of multicolor socs with an Apple Label is OUTRAGEOUS. The profit margin on these things must be incredible - like $28.50!?

Anyone who buys these should have his buying privileges suspended, along with his/her credit card. And Jobs should be ashamed of himself for blatant greed.

Re: beverson, you're right. It's also worth noting that Apple split up the Mac and iPod divisions so that even further means that these "socks" don't do anything at all to Mac development.

I wish people would layoff people even mentioning a headless iMac. What people are inferring (I think) by always bringing it up, is that they want a 'cheaper' mac (which excludes the G5 Desktop) as an option.

I mean, what's wrong in dreaming that a cheaper HiMac (Headless iMac) would attract people that already have a kickass monitor, or heaven forbid, drool over a Mac, but can't justify to their wife and kids to spend $2000 ($Can) for a half-decent iMac instead of groceries.

Can't people grasp that even a 'slighter' marketshare (I'm dreaming 5+% !)would make a different world out there for easier acceptance in business, etc. I mean I can't get my 'large' company to care that my Mac can't access our portal properly because 'No-one uses a mac'.

Everybody has an opinion for their own reasons. I tend to agree with this one.

Haven't you people heard of departments? In a large (or even small-to-medium size) company, the management and business aspects are broken up into 'de-part-ments' (or areas), which allow for division of labor and each department to concentrate on their specific area of the business. This allows a company to actually, get this, develop two products at the same time without one interfering with the other.

Yes, I'm sure, a company with over 10,000 employees, and everything is held up because of iPod accessories.

I can hear it now:

Avie: Steve, we've figured out how to do the headless iMac for only $30. We could sell it for $600 and make a killing!

Fred: h***, I'm retired, but I think its a great idea!

Avie: Yep, now we only need two weeks to work out the final details, and we'll be ready to go.

Steve: What? Two weeks? Forget it! I need everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, to stop what they're doing and come up with a killer kitschy iPod case. I'm thinking multi-color socks! It'll rule!

Avie: Rule? Well, whatever you say, but can't I keep a couple of guys on the headless iMac until its released?

Steve: Headless iMac? Forget it! I thought you said headless iPod! Throw out your wacky ideas, avie, and start working on these socks!

When I first saw these yesterday (I had heard about them a few weeks back), I was laughing hard enough to cause a commotion here at work. $30 for f-king socks! Are they crazy? -- Who would EVER buy something so rediculously overpriced... Then, after thinking about it for a bit, and with some key guidance from Testudo, I had a novel thought... "Just because I don't want these, doesn't mean they won't sell."-- Yep, I forgot that almost every time I go to the Infinite Loop campus I almost always see a TOURIST bus outside of the Apple retail store that's up in the front of the campus.. Oh, and those tourists taking their picture in front of Building 1, as if they're standing in front of the Great Pyramids or the Grand Canyon.... Those people will most definitely have their iPod socks going this holiday (if they haven't alreay ordered them).. Oh, and the people lining up at the Apple Mini-Store in the Oakridge Mall, before they opened (even though we've had a full apple store at Valley Fair, just 10 minutes away).. Yep, they'll have iPod socks.. The uber-mac-geeks will like these for one reason---> They are sold by Apple (not Belkin, not DLo, not any other company)... You know who else will buy them? The guy who doesn't know how to buy sh*t for his girlfriend, but he know she has an iPod... Oh, and the moms and dads out there who have lost touch with their kids, but know their kids have an iPod... Sad, but true (imho)---

One more thing

Anyone that thinks these won't sell during the holiday season should head over to their local mall.. I see people buying overpriced Bonzai trees, stupid neck pillows stuffed with Lavender, candles from those candle stores for $45 (talk about burning money)..... People will buy things that most sane people would never even think about buying, when Christmas rolls around...

Oh, and since I have so many friends with iPods, I could break up the pack! Stocking stuffers for cheap~My sister gets the pink sock, my gf gets the green one, someone else can take the purple one... Hmm.. maybe I should just order a pack now-- ;-)

Keep It Even

The law of Apple Products clearly states that "For every insanely great product introduced into the marketplace, Apple must produce a greatly insane product to compensate." This law is in place to prevent Apple from getting too far ahead of Microsoft. I believe it was part of the 1997 agreement.

Even if the greatly insane product happens to sell well, as long as it appeared greatly insane at the outset it still counts. Blue dalmation and flower power iMacs. Apple's own iPod case. Even .Mac (remember the crickets chirping when Steve announced that?)

More Racism Complaints

Multiple Racism-related Complaints continue to be filed against Apple Computer

ANOTHER REASON NOT TO BUY AN IPOD...

The California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) has received multiple complaints from Employees of Apple Computer regarding on-going Racial Segregation, Racial harassment, and Discrimination carried out by other employees and managers at Apple Computer in Cupertino California.

Among the allegations (dating back both before, and after September 11, 2001),

1) Racially Motivated threats of bodily harm, and harassment made by Apple Employees against minorities.

2) Apple Managers instructing White employees to isolate and segregate non-Whites, ethnic minorities, etc.

3) Termination of employment as a result of Racial retaliation against Asians, Middle Easterners, Blacks, and others.

4) Employee usage of Apple's employee and customer information databases to forward personal information about racial minorities to White Supremacists located outside of the company, in both the United States and Canada.
The allegations also point to Apple Computer's highly coordinated efforts between its Human Resources department, headed by Dan Walker, and managers in various departments at the company's Cupertino headquarters, to process complaints from victims by posing as third party "Employee Relations" personnel. Through this technique Apple has stolen evidence from victims and used that evidence to help it's White Supremacist employees to destroy and erase evidence such as E-mails etc.

The California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) keeps records of racial discrimination in the work place, and sometimes independently pursues legal action against offending entities. California Law requires victims of Racial Discrimination to file a complaint with it, prior to commencing any legal action against offending employers.
Segregation, retaliation, and racially motivated terminations by employers are all illegal in California.

Among those named in the complaints are the following people:
