Virginia Tech's G5 super computer loses some ground

VT falls to 7th


Many readers point out that Virginia Tech's Power Mac G5-based 'System X' super computer currently in a list of the world's 500 most powerful supercomputers. The supercomputer is composed of 1,100 dual 2.3GHz Apple Xserve G5 servers. Last year, the 20% slower 'System X' ranked 3rd overall, with the same number of 2.0GHz Xserves. Its lower ranking is due to the addition of other new supercomputers to the list.
