Macworld Boston relocates

IDG World Expo announced today that for this summer's event. The date has also been moved up one week, and will now take place from July 11-14, 2005. "Feedback from attendees and exhibitors prompted us to make this move," an IDG spokesman told MacNN. "Most of them requested a more intimate setting for this event. The BCEC is a beautiful venue, but the Hynes is a better fit for Macworld Boston." Despite the move, IDG claims that Macworld Boston is robust and that IDG is absolutely committed to its continued growth.

    Reason for move

Wasn't the new convention centre the whole reason for the move from NYC to Boston in the first place?

This just in IDG will be moving MacWorld Boston 2006 to a local community citing size of the Hynes Convention Centre as the reason. IDG is still committed to the continued growth of MacWorld Boston even as it grows to microscopic proportions. Meanwhile, New Yorkers and Mac fans the world over wonder what's in the water at IDG HQ.

    Hynes Easier To get to

I think the Hynes will be easier to get to as well. I had a tuff time finding my way the the BCEC last time and the public transpertation to that part of town still seems a little screwed up.

IDG moved it to New York because Boston could not hold the entire Convention in one center, but they said they would be back if Boston did. The drop in attendence can mostly be attributed to Apple's pull out of the "Summer (or East Coast)" Expo which they did when the venue was moved back to Boston.

Now that it has a smaller size the venue needs to be modified to reflect the changes that have occured.

I may choose to go back this year if it seems like I will have a better time then last year.

    The Hynes??

Using the Hynes for MacWorld doesn't make much sense to me. It has lots of conference rooms and such, but for a convention floor, I don't see it. Why not go back to one of the venues used before MacWorld left Boston? After all, the show has shrunk enough to fit in one of them, no?

    Reason for shrinking

Obviously the reason for the decrease in size is because Apple wasn't there, and won't be there unless they move it back to New York. If Apple isn't there, than many of the other "big boys" won't be there either. Eventually the East Coast show will die.

    dead show

We are a medium to small vendor who attended MW Boston this past year.. The show was a joke in terms of attending exhibitors. It seemed that half the booths were local MUGs, the chair-massage guys, and folks selling toner refill kits.. People paying to go to the show will not be fooled again-

For us, the show was actually pretty good, because the traffic was robust.. However, I doubt that any attendees, knowing what they got for their money this past July, will attend the show next year.. With this in mind, we are 95% sure that we will not be attending the show either, content with having done well to a "captive" audience that expressed anger with the show's small footprint---
